TRIUMPH OWNERS CLUB Meriden August 2010

G'Day,

23/5/10. The late Spring Run.

The late Spring Run was to Snibston Colliery museum near Coalville.
Twenty five bikes and thirty members assembled at the club house at 10 O'clock ready for the off (Not really true because we were waiting for Keith).
We all got away at about 10:15ish led by Bob Johnson who went for the sympathy vote and told everyone that the last time he led a ride out an extra 100 miles was put on the journey.  The gathered throng showed no sympathy at all and told Bob to get on with it.
We set off at a steady pace from Meriden to Fillongley, on to Arley, Ansley and Galley Common. We passed through Hartshill on our way to Fenny Drayton to join the A444, it was here that several of the older members (all of them actually) got lost even though we were operating the second man drop off system (actually it was the third man drop off system because Ian and Carol joined us on their Combo).  The elders of the group who caught the rest of the pack later claimed they got confused at the Fenny Drayton junction because they weren't sure if they should be following a line of motorcycles or a local bus, they followed the bus.
We all sped (well 45mph) up the A444 to the turn for Congerstone, on to Shackerstone, Heather and then Snibston. Everyone arrived safely except the "Old Uns"  who were led in by a "Meals on wheels" van.
After a "Nice Cuppa' Tea"  we ventured to the pay desk, in true old persons fashion we were moaning about how much the entrance fee was.  We were all pleasantly surprised that a two for one offer was in place that day.  All of a sudden the old people started smiling, although I wish some hadn't because they had forgotten to put their teeth in.
In the main hall there were lots of "Things" to play on.  Some "Things" went round and round, some went up an down others made "Phishing" noises.  We tried to coax John Stonard into a machine that created a "Tornado Twister" but he was having none of it. John said he had seen machines like this in a H.G. Well's film and people who entered were never seen again.  As we walked away I heard Bob Wisdom say to Gerry Boland "We missed a golden opportunity there"
Gerry Boland lifted a "Mini" with one hand, the woman didn't mind because she was recently divorced and welcomed the attention. Steve Bradwick tried to set the building on fire with a real, yes a real "Flame Thrower". Bob Johnson was his usual silly self by pressing every button on display, looking at babies and making them cry and generally having a good time.
Some of the static displays had been recreated with so much detail that Debbie tried to buy some chips from the Chippy display.  Brian spent a long time convincing the poor lass that it was only a display.
In the main hall we saw planes, a bus, generators, steam engines, one of Frank Whittles early master pieces, machines that made lenses for cameras, machines that made machines etc it was brilliant.
Some of the group went on the "Coal Mine Tour" I heard Gerry Boland say to Bob Wisdom, "This will be our chance to get shut of him". Who Gerry was referring to I don't know.
On the "Coal Mine Tour" we visited the lift shaft, the wheel house, the offices, the communication room, the medical centre, the lamp room and at the very end "THE POWDER ROOM".  Beryl asked John if she could have five minutes to put some "Slap" on, because it was a very hot day and she was perspiring.  John said.£"&%.  I won't tell you what John said.
In the Powder Room we were shown how the coal face was drilled and charged with explosive. We were treated to a simulation of an underground explosion which resulted in a tremendous bang accompanied by vibrations that made the building shake and the earth move, it was very realistic. A couple of our female members were heard asking their partners if they could visit "The Powder Room" again before going home.

We had another "Cuppa Tea" and put the world right, followed by our usual silly chat. Everyone had a good time.

Snibston museum is well worth visiting.

 Report by Bob Johnson.

30/5/10. Stanford Hall show

Although the weather was good a strong wind kept the temperatures down, but this did not stop the lads turning out for the Stanford Hall show. A good selection of bikes from the members were brought along to represent the club. At this event there is always a good selection of stalls for the purchase of that elusive part. Even the Hall itself had a good alternative
to the normal ice cream van with refreshments in the old stable block.

Visit from Border Branch.

We had an unexpected visit from John and Lyn Teah from the Borders Branch at our club night earlier this month.  They popped in to say hello while in the area visiting the National Motorcycle Museum, the site of the original Triumph factory and the renowned ‘Mad Mile’.  It was good to meet up with them and I hope they enjoyed the evening.  Shirley was especially pleased and amazed to meet them, as John had been the topic of several e-mails between her and Laurence over the preceding week because John had inadvertently cheated the HQ Branch out of 50p.  Needless to say that once the situation had been explained to him, Lyn wasted no time in handing over the offending 50p. Thanks Lyn and it was great to meet you both.

31/5/10. Ken Broomfield Best of Britain Baxterley Nr Atherstone.

No organized run to this show, So it was a see you there job, If you could find the place. Off a narrow lane down a track, bridleway, green lane. I’m not sure but I found it. I bumped into Clive H and Pete B from Meriden branch. Also members from the Tamworth motorcycle club, and the local vintage club, who I new and had a chat with during the day.
Classic cars, bikes, military vehicles, and remote controlled model aircraft, also added to the show. Free entry and free coffee and burgers were on offer during the day, with donations from these refreshments going to the Warwickshire Air Ambulance Service. A nice friendly bunch of people, with all sorts of interests made for a nice day.

4/6/10 Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway, half term Festival of Steam

A late add on to the events calendar. Four of us visited this half term show. Two Triumphs and one B.S.A..  We met at Wellesbourne Airfield  Café and rode down to Winchcome Station in the Cotswolds on some lovely quiet roads via Broadway.
Lots of steam engines working on the line, Gleaming, Steaming, Smoking, Smelling Great. And resplendent in their Livery were also on show at the station, making it a hive of activity and interest  for the public, A lovely throwback to the Golden Age of steam. Another good day out in the sun, Then back home, via Wellesbourne Café for a cheap and cheerful top up of food and coffee.

Report from Keith Snell

Summer party at the Klondyke 6/6/10.

The club had been invited to the June summer party at the Klondyke to put our bikes on show alongside their steam vehicles and stationary steam motors,  a  total of sixteen members on twelve bikes set off from the club house, Keith set off  leading the pack to Whitacre,  where  John Stonard  took over the lead going through Dosthill (watching the camera’s) to  the A5 then to Hopwas so missing the troubles of Tamworth.  It was a really good run into the Klondike  where on arrival it was suggested that we set the bikes up in the lower field instead of being crowded up under the trees as we normally are.
Although the summer show is the smaller of the two shows that are held each year it was still very good. Particularly the refreshments, in the afternoon it suddenly started to cool off and the threat of the rain that had been promised , seemed to be on its way so several of the members decided that it was time to depart. , John S led the returning riders on a different route back,  going through  Barton under Needwood  then over the Bailey bridge to Walton and through the back lanes to Fazeley petrol station, after the normal filling up of the tanks we all then split up and went our own way home  hopefully every one getting home in the dry, I would like to say that at the show, lots of complimentary comments were heard about the standard of the bikes.

And that they were looking forward to the next one in October.

Blue Lias Wed 16/6/10.

It was an amazing turnout for Wheels 2010.  We could not count all the cars and bikes but we think it was over 200.

It was hard to judge a winner with so many cars there but in the end we plumped for the Chevrolet Bel Air owned by Rob Evans.

Pictures and full results will appear on our Facebook page, to see it please go to www.cwmc.org.uk and click on the link.  Please join as a fan if you can so we can keep you in touch with new events.

Thanks for making it a record-breaking event.

G'Day,

I have been really busy lately and have not had the time to go to many of the shows and even found it hard to find time to right these few lines. But members have been good enough to send in a few lines as follows.

Bikes Safe. Sunday the 9th May, once again a good turnout of bikes were put on show. With quite a variety of models, and with the weather being cool but dry .  We were in just the right position to see the skills of the stunt riders also the police showing just how to ride slowly without falling off.   John Stonard.

National TOMCC Rally Bainland Park rally Lincolnshire.

Ian and Shirley, Gerry and myself travelled up to Bainland separately but arrived at about the same time and we all found our caravan together. It was cold and windy on the Friday but dry for the journey, as soon as we had unpacked and made our beds in the van,  Ian, Gerry and myself  went to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Hangar tour.
We were the first group on the tour but by the time we left to return to the site there were several parties of TOMCC types clogging up the Hangar and it’s environs.
Saturday morning started with the death of the toaster which took the electricity supply to the caravan out. A call to the reception saw the electricity back on and us unwrapping a brand new toaster in just a couple of minutes. Full marks for service.
The weather looked wet at the start of the Saturday run and we decided to take a lazy day around Woodhall Spa. This included a walk in the woods during which we lost our way and found a couple of rope swings on a large tree  Pictures do exist and may be shown…
Saturday night featured the Back Street Blues Band who played a fair variety of blues and rock and roll. There was a pig roast, which some people said was just a pork batch. Did they expect a pig each?
Sunday the run out was to Cleethorpes and then on to Grimsby to the Fishery Museum. The run from Woodall Spa up to the coast was good with the road continuously twisting, rising and falling through the Lincolnshire Wolds. The fisheries museum was very good and we had a guided tour of the Ross Tiger, a trawler which was commissioned in the ‘50s. There was little space and less luxury for the crew of those boats. It must have been a hard job in good weather and dreadfully hard and dangerous with a big sea running.
Most people went home on Sunday but for those of us who stayed on there was another band on Sunday night and a god run home on Monday despite some fairly extensive road diversions south of Woodhall Spa.  Johns S. Nelson

Coventry Museum Bike Night

For once the weather was fantastic and not even cold. Helping to organize this event was Dave Parry who is a member of the friends of the Museum.
After a get together and refreshments. All the bikes and cars (well a Morgan a BSA and a kit car ) all three wheelers, were stretched out to be shown.
Then a quick check in the museum the we left about 9 pm.    Several members turned out to support the club and Dave, also a good turnout of bikes as
well as bikers from other clubs as well, which includes the vintage club.  John Stonard

BMF Rally this is the first year of the TOMCC Peterborough Branch and we had a good turnout of bikes and members on the Club stand. Most of the members displaying did both days so the club got full value for the passes we ordered. The weather was kind to the show for once although clear skies meant cold nights for those of us in tents. I picked up a couple of bargains from the Triumph clothing tent which was next to the club stand again  for the first time they had a sign on the tent so people could find them. It was a real scrum in there for most of Saturday and rather busy Sunday morning too. There were more bike manufacturers at the show than the last few years but still no Honda. With this being the first BMF show organised by Mulberry Group it was interesting to see what changes were in evidence. Martin Chick, MD of Mulberry, was in evidence on the show-ground and in the entertainment venue and none of the signs of chaos that Live Promotions some times produced came to my attention. The exhibition hall / warehouse that has to be used now still has the worst acoustics of any music venue I have ever experienced by a long way. There was a “Comedy Club” tried out on the Friday night, which went down like the Titanic. (Very few survivors.)
This year’s Tail End Show will be at Lincoln Show-ground and Missing Lincs Branch will be putting on a stand for TOMCC. It is the same weekend as Triumph Live at Mallory Park and the Stinkwheel Rally in Leicestershire but a visit may well be in order. John S. Nelson

G'Day,

Well I have been so busy this month with my vehicle breakdowns that I haven’t had time to do much at all. I have 2 cars and 3 bikes and there was a time this month when the only running vehicle was my 1958 Thunderbird.

Fortunately a few members have sent in a few lines and so here they are'

Any branch members who don't have Internet facility might like to contact Ian Ellis our branch secretary for a list of forthcoming branch events and runs.  Simply phone 024 7633 6272. If there is no reply please leave your name and membership number and that you require a list and one will be posted to you. Those with Internet access who wish to log onto the club forum must have filled in their email address on their membership form as this is needed with your membership number in order to log in. Don't forget to let Ian know by email ise1402@hotmail.co.uk if you change your email address. Please bear in mind that you might not get an instant response as we do take holidays from time to time.    Thanks for that Ian.

I would like to add to that you only need to have your membership number etc to hand for the National TOMCC forum. Whereas the Meriden TOMCC Branch site http://www.triumphmeriden.org.uk/index.htm is open to anyone and has a full calendar of events as well as many other interesting sections thanks to Web Master Bob.  I love the bit on the sit where Bob says “Join the most progressive and active branch of the T.O.M.C.C “.

Ian also sent the following,

It was good to see a dozen of our branch members at the Club AGM on 18th April. There were many issues that were discussed in detail and made the AGM more interesting than normal with a few changes in the pipeline. Shirley and Steve did us proud by keeping everyone topped up with tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival and during the lunch break, this was supplied by Margaret Mellish. Ian Kay and John helped with the washing up and tidying the room afterwards. Thanks everyone. Yes thank you Ian.

And our trusty on the spot reporter John S sent in the following

Hi Den,

As you were aware the "Big Breakfast" run took place last Sunday  (11 April), well the day was very bright and clear although a little cool at first but then it usually is for this run out, It is a fantastic gathering of bikers from all over the country. It is a wonderful sight as there are Bikes from all makers past and present  also even homemade ones and kit bikes the atmosphere is always brilliant with such a varied collection of people present. Also it is one of the first of the big meets of the season.

Quite a few of our lads were present, also some from the Wednesday crowd from Hoar Park. Then after a big breakfast and a good chat to everyone, usually a steady ride back home in the afternoon.  Oh what a fab. day.

One of our club members did get arrested by the strong arm of the law, but was released (unfortunately) after a short while. Yes John had a cuddle and a photo with an attractive WPC.  Thanks John.

This job is getting easier with all my roving reporter out and about. Thanks again.

G'Day,

Secondly a report from Steve B

Sunday march 7th : Mods and Rockers run to Dockers diner at Leamington spa. Having met a few of the Mods previously at the Romeo and Juliet play in Warwick last November, we were invited via Keith S to join in on this run. About a dozen branch members participated, half riding in from the first meeting point at the Whittle arches in Coventry to the second meeting point by the clock tower in Kenilworth where they were met by the rest of the members. The weather was good, a nice bright dry sunny day but still quite cold. About 11am we all moved off en-mass towards Leamington.

On reaching the diner the street outside was full of bikes and scooters, inside the service for coffee and food was a bit slow, only to be expected when approximately 120 people turned up at once. All in all a good morning was had by everyone, a good opportunity to blow away some of the winter cobwebs on the run. Incidentally pictures from the day can be seen on You Tube under the heading Dockers Diner.

 Thanks Steve

14/3/10.Wooton Bassett:- About 10 members that I know of went along. 2 groups left at different times from Strafford Bike Park and some made there own way there. There were about 15000 bikes there. There was a long wait at the airport (meeting point) but it was well worth it. The ride itself through Wotton Bassett was very emotional with the people waiving and cheering and some holding up banner saying things like “we love bilkers”. But the simplest but most poignant message was simply “Thank You” The local people would have had to stand along the roads for about 6 hours in order to see all the bike ride through. It was said that if all the bikes lined up nose to tail, the line would be 2 ½ miles long.

16/2/10:- Wellesbourne airfield café. The first really nice day for a while resulted in about 20 biker at the café. Even Barry ventured out on his new cruiser and Gerry on his brand new Thunderbird 1600. It was hard to find a place to park.

I believe  the Hoar Park meet is still going strong but I havent been able to get there and I have had no reports.

21/3/10  The Mike Halwood Memorial run. About twenty of us met up at the Stonebridge Island including a few very welcome new faces. I led the ride into Bracebridge street where we met up with about 400 other bikers. The police carried out a great escort job to Tanworth-in-Arden, giving us a clear run at islands and traffic lights. Guess who had to fill up with petrol on the way. Good job I know the way. The weather was great and a couple of us then went on to Stratford afterwards. A good start to the season.

I look forward to a good and active new season.

Following my request at the AGM for members to send in their own reports for insertion into the Nacelle, especially when I am not present at the event, resulted in two reports being sent in for the Mods and Rockers do. Great, the more views the better.

Firstly Shirley reports as follows.

On a sunny but cold Sunday morning, 7th March, we set out for a meet up at the Whittle Arch in Coventry.  However, this time with a difference.  We were meeting up with the Mods from the area.  This had come about from the updated version of the Romeo & Juliet theatre performance mentioned in the February edition of Nacelle.  As a result of the success of this, Paul Thompson and our Keith Snell had decided to try a meet up and ride out.  I am ashamed to say that we were outnumbered by the Mods on the day (good thing the days of confrontation are over), but we all set off and caused much head turning and clicking of mobile cameras on route to Kenilworth, where we met up with another twenty or so scooters/bikes, but still outnumbered I’m afraid.  There were a couple of people there who had a foot in two camps, owning both scooters and  bikes and if nothing else I am glad to report that they came on their bikes for the outing, so all is not lost.   We then went on to a place in Spencer Street, Leamington Spa, called Dockers, a 60’s style diner complete with jukebox, which was soon full to bursting.  A very good outing and one that will probably be repeated sometime in the summer.  Thanks go to Paul and Keith for organising this.  Hopefully next time we will have a better bike turnout.  It has just occurred to me that we always say Mods and Rockers, not Rockers and Mods, hope this is just an alphabetical reason and no other.  Can anyone enlighten me?

Before I go, I would just like to say through these pages that Denis is still looking for a replacement Branch Scribe, but no one at our recent AGM volunteered for the position.  I know that Denis is second to none when it comes to meeting people, but come on someone, give him a break and volunteer to take the job on, even if it is only for one year.  Anyone interested, please contact Ian Ellis, details in Nacelle.  Thanks Shirley

TRIUMPH OWNERS CLUB Meriden 2010    (April)

 G'Day,

Not much happening with the snow and all. Can’t wait for spring.

There was one run. The Fred Hill memorial run on 7/2/10 organised by the M A G. This run is to show we will never forget the sacrifice one man gave for the freedom of choice. He died in prison and was one of the founder members of the M A G (Motorcycle Action Group) who still fight for our rights today. There is a south Birmingham branch that meets every 2 weeks. There were several groups who rode in from different points to arrive at the motorcycle museum 13.00. Two Meriden TOMCC members rode in with 3 other clubs from their meeting point on the Stratford road / M42 by Notcutts.
And 2 more members were at the final destination, Motorcycle Museum. There was a short talk in the lecture theatre and then we all dispersed

Keith is already preparing runs for this year and it looks like another jam packed event year.

TRIUMPH OWNERS CLUB Meriden 2010    (March & April)

G'Day,

Not much happening in terms of rides / meets with the snow and all.

We did have the V.M.C.C. Boxing Day meet at Hoar Park. The V.M.C.C. are now welcoming all clubs and riders following a few years when they wanted club members only. Due to the weather there was not a great turn out and the big barn, which was opened especially my Hoar Park, was not needed after all. Still It was a good day and I had the opportunity to meet up with some old friend.

The following Monday we had the South Midlands classic vehicle meet at Beckets Farm. This event normally clashes with the Boxing Day meet and no doubt it will again when Boxing Day falls on a Monday. The car park was full to overflowing. Of course a bike can always find a space but many people had opted to come by car due to the weather and so many cars were being turned away and parked in the side road.

Alas this month saw another funeral of a fellow member Elsie Wilkes and David Banks. John Nelson sent in this report.

The double funeral for Elsie Wilkes and David Banks took place on the 14th of January 2010.

Elsie and David had been working together for Jumbo GB then DCMR charities for many years and latterly lived together in Coleshill. David had been caring for Elsie since she had a severe stroke about two years ago. Elsie was 92 and David was ten years younger.

Elsie had been a full member of Triumph Owners MCC since January 1961. After the Coventry Branch folded Elsie was one of the founders of Meriden Branch and worked for the club at Branch level and organised the Isle of Man TT and GP get togethers for the national club  for many years. When I joined TOMCC in the early eighties Elsie was on the Meriden Branch committee, for many years in the eighties and nineties, she was Treasurer and I was Secretary.

David came to the bike show at the NEC (2009) and found me on the BMF stand where he told me that Elsie had had a heart attack and was in hospital, and not expected to recover. I thought at the time that he looked frail but just put it down to the worry.

David visited Meriden TOMCC in mid December where he took details of the sidecar hearse company. He looked a bit below par but it came as a real shock to hear that Elsie had died just after Christmas and David followed on just about 12 hours later.

There were two sidecar hearses at the double funeral both powered by Triumph Adventurers. Despite the snow there were people at the funeral from all over the country, there were Triumph Owners who had travelled from Essex, Notts. Derbs. as well as the local B&W and Meriden branches. One couple I spoke to had travelled over 200 miles to be there. The chapel was packed with, I think, over 140 mourners standing all the way down both sides and three deep at the back. The service was positive and quite moving with readings from Elsie’s son and one of her granddaughters.

The gathering after the service seemed to go well with a lot of good memories exchanged and spirits raised. Certainly the families got the message that Elsie and David had touched a lot of lives and hearts.

When Elsie was featured on Esther Rantzen’s Hearts of Gold program the BBC props people gave her a new Union flag top hat with golden hearts around the brim. She treasured that hat and wore it often during her fund raising and on the Jumbo and DCM runs. Never one to miss an opportunity she had a batch of enamel badges made representing the hat and sold them to raise funds. I wore mine to the funeral and one of Elsie’s granddaughters recognised the image. It was then that I found out that the famous top hat went into the casket with her. Thank you John.

TRIUMPH OWNERS CLUB Meriden 2010    (January & February )

G'Day,

Fri 13th – Sun 15th  The classic vehicle show at the Nec

We had bikes on display on the Triumph Owners Club stand run by the B’ham & Wolves branch. We also had bikes on the B.S.A stand. (Brian) and on the Tamworth and District classic club stand (John S). We also had two Bonnevilles, Geoff’s & Bob’s on the Daimler Dart stand. I have since learnt that apparently Edward Turner who as we know designed many of the Meriden motorbikes also designed the engine for the Daimler Dart used by the Police. We also had bikes on display on the Pioneers (I think) stand (Mike D), members other than distinguished personnel have to have held a bike driving licence for more than 50 years for this club. I have 4 years to go as I am not a distinguished personage, I will remain just plain old Den.!!.

We arrived on the Thursday to set up the stands. I personally rode in and returned by train and bus. All free of charge thanks to the good old reliable bus pass. On the Sunday a friend gave me a lift there in return for a free ticket and car park pass. I thoroughly enjoyed the show as usual.

On the same weekend we were invited to a performance of Romeo and Juliet, in which instead of the two feuding families it was set in the 60’s with the feuding parties being the Mods and Rockers, hence our invite. Obviously I couldn’t be in two places at once. But John N did tell me he was very upset when his new Speed Master / Bonneville America was mistaken for a Hardly Ferguson. Several other members went along on the different nights including Keith S who sent in this report.

“Nov 11/12/13/14 Bridge House Theatre, Warwick. Shakespeare Romeo & Juliet. Yes Romeo and Juliet! Let me explain with this article from the program. “ “It has been an exciting challenge for the whole cast to bring this production of Romeo and Juliet from concept to performance. Early on all agreed that the Mods and Rockers period of the early to mid 60’s was both a fascinating historic period and quite helpful. Theatrically as it was culture of pop music, fashion and rebellion. The more  we explored the choices made by the characters in the play the more it seemed to fit””  Assisting director of the play, Claire Musson got in touch with our secretary Ian, asking could we display two or three bikes each evening outside the theatre entrance, With complimentry tickets to the play for riders and passengers. Something different but we had enough members come forward and display Triumphs and see the play.

The weather that week was very windy and wet. But we all turned out and displayed, and saw the play. One or two scooters also turned up, also on display, to add to the theme of the evenings. Something very different for us to participate in  I, but we enjoyed the theme of the play. Never a dull moment at the Meriden Branch. Thanks for that Keith.

Looking back to the sixties I personally never experienced any animosity between the Mods  and myself a Rocker with my BSA C11G it was something grossly exaggerated by the press at the time who didn’t have anything else to print on the week of the bust up at Briton that summer.

28TH Nov – 6th Dec The National motorbike show at the N.E.C. there didn’t seem to be as many bike on show as previous years, but that didn’t bother me as I like to look at the tools and ancillary equipment. It was very busy despite the £17-00 entrance fee and £8-00 car parking charge. However it was free to park bikes and the bike park was close to the show and pensioners can get in for £5-00 and travel free by bus or train. And disabled can also park cars free and close.  So for a fiver it’s not a bad day out.

Dec 11th  Our Xmass party  This annual event started by our late member Pete was full of fun and frivolity as usual. With the number forever increasing. Its great for all the members to meet up for the social event, and thanks to all those who helped arrange it. Unfortunately though I felt the food was not up to the usual standard. The meats were great but all the vegetables had been cooked and standing for a long time and were not very worm. Maybe it was because I was first in the queue and had the long standing veg. Maybe those later to be served had fresh veg put out when the old was used. Never mind, its something we can request for next year.

TRIUMPH OWNERS CLUB Meriden 2009    (November & December)

G'Day,

I wish to dedicate this months report to the passing of fellow club member and friend Pete Beckwith. Following years of hospital procedures it seemed to me that he was on the road to recovery. Unexpectedly on 18th Oct whilst at the Autumn Steam Party in Drayton in the Clay, Gerry told me Pete had only a few weeks left and was in the Marie Curie Hospice. Barry and myself went to see him on the following Tuesday. He was glad to see us and to my amazement was not at all depressed and could still hold a good and interesting conversation. He was and is an example to us all of how to face the inevitable with pride and dignity.

Whilst there he asked me to let all members know that he would love to see as many of them as possible and to let them know he was not at all morbid and was still good company.  He also asked me to thank everyone in writing in the Nacelle for their good wishes and thank everyone who had been to visit him and especially to thank everyone for their friendship and camaraderie throughout the years, which he held dear. He said he had put all his affairs in order and didn’t need help with anything. And with a smile said he had absolutely no objections to bikes being at the funeral.

I never spent much time talking to Pete at the club; It was out and about on the bikes that I got to know him. I would bump into him and sometimes we would just say hello in passing and on other occasions we would pass hours talking trivia, bikes, and putting the word to rights, but without taking ourselves to seriously. You all no doubt have memories of your own.

On the day of the funeral several bikes met at Pete’s sisters house, whilst waiting outside for the cortege all the family came out and thanked us profusely for coming especially on the bikes. He sister said, “Pete will be looking down on us and loving this, after all it was his life”

We followed the cortege to the crematorium to find other bikes and club members waiting for us. The crematorium was full to standing capacity Whist standing there, listening to full account of Pete’s life I felt privileged to be a part of it. I believe we did ourselves proud on this day. We all then went on to the local by Pete’s sister house for a cuppa and buffet. An overused phrase these days I know but never the less  “PETE WE WILL REMEMBER YOU”.

There was only one other event I can think of this month, which melts into insignificance by comparison and will be included in next months report.

G'Day,

26th Sept :-  I spent a lovely week in South Devon and so could not make the Bristol Branch Concord rally but Shirley once again sent in a report as follows.

The nine members who went to the Concorde Rally this year would like to say a big thank you to the Bristol Branch, especially to those who organised the event.  What a great weekend it was, with even the weather smiling on us.  We hope Georgina hasn’t had any further problems with the oil light on her Bonneville America.  Shame it had to come on just as we had set off on our Saturday run as Georgina was the runs leader, but Andy nobly took on the role, appearing to be quite blasé about it.  Only afterwards did we find out that he didn’t have a copy of the route and hates being a runs leader, but didn’t like to say no when asked.  He did a terrific job, even if we did end up in Cheddar instead of Glastonbury and our own Martin led us all back to the campsite again later that day.  He says sorry to those who weren’t expecting to have such a rural return, his Sat Nav and Scrambler bike just couldn’t resist those little lanes.  Thanks also to the DJ and the Group who gave us such good evening entertainment and lastly, free tea and coffee all weekend was a brilliant idea and much appreciated.  We are looking forward to next year already

11th Oct :- Autumn Steam and Vintage Rally, Cheltenham. About 12 of us met up at the Stratford Bike Park and led by Keith, we set of for our first waypoint at Toddington. Although the forecast said dry it was a wet and damp morning so we set of at a steady pace. but one of us had some bad luck. Tony  (who also ride a BSA and normally rides with Gordon and Ian) had recently bought himself a Thunderbird sports but unfortunately a patch of diesel on the road caused his bike to just slip from under him whilst taking a bend. Tony was taken to hospital and his bike recovered. When I phoned for an ambulance I was not sure of our location and so asked if they could get a fix on us from my mobile phone, they said no and so I said how about if I give you our coordinate (Longitude and latitude) from our GPS. To my surprise they said no and so I resorted to the old fashioned method with and flagged down a motorist and used his map to get our location. Meanwhile a passing couple who saw the accident stopped and the young lady immediately went to the assistance of Tony. She sat with him and held his hand, comforting him through his pain until the Ambulance arrived. We send our heart felt gratitude to her for her help. The ambulance medic called out a fire engine to hose down the road to prevent further accidents. I have heard that Tony  has broken ribs front and back, a broken collar bone and scapular plus being very badly bruised, they medics he got off lightly but very painful. He is now out of hospital and on the road to recovery. The rest of us went on to Toddington station but felt it was to late to go onto Cheltenham has planned.

18th Oct :- Autumn Steam Party, Drayton in the Clay. About 10 of us met up at the clubhouse and set of the meet John in Tamworth. The weather was dry and crisp. We arrived to find our normal parking place already taken up by other bikers. Obviously the word is spreading to attract other biker as well as us. Another good day.

I was too busy to do last months report and I am rushing this one at the last minute but I will try and cover both the last two months here.

          Sun 27th July:-

There were a couple of events  on this day the VMCC  Founders Day Rally at  Stanford Hall and the Ken Broomfields wings & wheels show at Baxterley.   I met up with other Meriden Branch members for the ride into Stanford Hall led by Dave.   Unfortunately Dave lost his way and decided to finish the journey by motorway, but as my bike was developing a misfire I decided with a few other not to go on the motorway and found our way via Bob and Martin’s Sat Nav’s.   On arrival I immediately bought new plugs, condenser and ignition coil and with the help of Martin fitted the new parts which solved the problem. Thanks Martin. It was a good day and good a stand and thanks to those who brought the club equipment along

Keith told me there was also a good turn out to the Ken Broomfield do also and they had a good time.

Aug 21st –23rd

Bonneville Celebrations at the Motor Heritage Centre, Gaydon.  About a dozen of us went along to this event. It was the first time we used our new 'Super Duper Gazebo'.  An excellent daytime club stand Gazebo but I was hoping for an evening party tent as well but we made use of Ian’s gazebo by the tents to party. Although I was not impressed by the organisation of this event we still managed to have a good time with 'Bob the Legs' becoming 'Bob the Legless' and Martin  and Gerry in the spirit of camaraderie thought they should join him as well. Bob managed to find his legs the next day to climb the stage to receive his trophy for best overall bike I think it was.

It was good to see so many Triumphs together in one place at the same time. A sight to remember! The music was good both nights, especially on the Saturday night. Whilst the bands were under cover we the spectators were in the open air and although it was dry it was far too cold on the Friday night to stand listening to the music which led to us making our own entertainment back at Ian’s gazebo by the tents and a few of us getting a little tipsy. The Saturday night was warmer and so we could enjoy the music and manage to get seats as well. The trade stalls were very limited in number for such an auspicious occasion and the drinks too expensive.

Aug 27th – 31st

“Isle of Wight Invasion” / Scooter festival. I rode down to the island with about 50 other bikers for a long weekend. We stayed on the usual farm campsite and went to the annual steam fair where we were guest's of honour in the main arena. The local pub is virtually on site and the local village only a short walk away. And of course we went across the Island to the Scooter show.

Sun 6th

Sept Coventry Run. Keith sent in this report; - About six members from the Meriden branch went on this run, about sixty miles, starting and finishing at the memorial park Coventry. I did not go on this run myself but called in at the Horse and Jockey Pub at Bentley near Atherton, which is on the rout, The pub entered into the spirit of things with bunting and flags placed outside and there was a burger bar and tea and coffee and entrants. A nice fine sunny day and all Meriden members had a good uneventful ride out at this event. Thanks Keith.

Sep 7th – 11th

Harlech, Gwynedd, Wales. I spent a great 5 days with about 18 other bikers. We hired out a 12-bedroom manor house next to the castle and rode out to several different places each day including Port Merrion. I was number 6. We had a great time.

Sun 13th

Sept classic bike show and long mind run. meet  Borders classis show and long mind run. About 20 off us met up at 10:00 am at the Dog pub,  Keith led us in to Cleobury Mortimer for the classic bike show where we stayed for about 2 hours. I seem to bump into other bikers that I know from far and wide here. We then set of for the Long Mynd. No matter how many times I ride the Long Mynd, I still find it a challenge. We stopped on the airfield café / club at the top as usual and received the normal warm welcome. We the set off for the Bridgenorth Biker Café for another cuppa. Another very enjoyable day.

Sun 20th

BMF I was thinking of going along with the Bards biker who had booked in advance at £23-00 but I hadn’t and I thought £30-00 pay on the gate for the weekend was a little steep. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by some of the other excellent free shows? Jon N went along for the one day £16-00 and bought himself a flash new leather Triumph jacket.

 Sun 20th

Shirley sent in this report:-  Several club members met up at the National Motorcycle Museum for the Midland VMCC's 'Tour from Birmingham' run on Sunday 20th and enjoyed a lovely scenic route in beautiful sunshine.  After a stop at the Horse & Jockey at Bentley it was back to the Museum for signing off, where there was a stupendous array of tinware up for grabs. I'm pleased to report that our club members came away with two of these trophies, Dave Sketchley won the Concourse for his very tasty 1969 Bonneville and Graham Cadman won the trophy for best WD bike with his 1969 TR6, an ex White Helmets display bike. Thanks Shirley.

Sun 20th

Classic, Modified and Restored Car and Motorcycle Show. Keith seeing the weather forecast was good and only a few members would be going to the VMCC DO arranged this at the last minute and sent in this report: - This event is in its third year but was the first year we have attended and displayed. Only four days notice of the show meant we had to act fast, but with my phone calls and Den’s emails we had nine Triumphs and 12 members meet up and ride in from the Waterman pub. Classic, Vintage car and bike, modified vehicles, buses, hot cars, pink, 4 X 4 and clean machines were the categories, a bit of everything for everyone. Meriden members won two trophies, Ashley on his Bonneville America won clean machine award for bikes, and Geoff won best at show with his 1961 Bonny. Well done to the two of you. All proceeds from the show were donated to the Warwickshire and Northants Air Ambulance. A nice sunny laid-back day was had by all, and a definite event to add to next years calendar.

TRIUMPH OWNERS CLUB Meriden 2009    (June & July)

G'Day,

I Spent the week beginning 26th June down in Devon and so missed a couple of events, but good old Keith came to the rescue with the following reports.

“27 June, Tyseley Railway Museum, Birmingham. :- Arranged and led by Ian K on his 650 Combo, with his wife Carol and their daughter on board. 7 triumphs and ten members left the Meriden Clubhouse to visit the museum. The Star for the weekend was the newly rebuilt steam locomotive, “TORNADO” A beautiful piece of engineering machinery. The first loco to be built for nearly fifty years.  “TORNADO” and other loco’s Halls, Manors, and various others and various smaller shunters worked for the public, and were active in the museums sidings and turntable complex. Lots of visitors for this event and a lovely dry day for us visiting on our Triumphs. Thanks to Ian for arranging the run, and also the secure bike parking area for our Triumphs (nice one Ian)”.

29th June Cassington Bike Night:-  I love this meet in Cassington, a small one horse town where one night each year the locals welcome bike from all over the country. The town green is kept as pride and place for all British bikes with the American, European and Japanese rubbish being derogated to the side roads!, Once again I was not able to be in two place at once and so Keith has also sent in this report.

Cassington Bike Night:- Five Triumphs left from the meeting place at Stratford-upon-Avon, bike park. While John and I were deciding who was going to lead, Gerry took the bull by the horns and decided to lead the way, Down through Woodstock and past Blenhim Palace, a lovely area, to Cassington. (They could have dropped in and helped decipher this lot)! Getting there early allowed us to park up and get sorted before the masses started to ride in. Other members of Meriden branch turned up as the afternoon wore on. Estimates of between 8 and 9 thousand bikes take to this once a year event, and the local villagers make us all welcome, The pubs, W.I.  Stand, tea and cake stands, school parking area and other fund raising stalls too. I hear Gerry won a Christmas mug on one such stall. A just reward for leading the way perhaps” “Good on ya Gerry” I took a box of Bonneville event flyers to Cassington, a chance too good to miss. Thanks to all members who handed them out all afternoon and Evening.

5th July, Meriden social / BBQ Meet:- I was able to attend this meet and a good meeting it was but good old Keith still wrote a report for this as well. Do you think we have a budding new scribe trying to push me out? Yes please! Seriously Keith you contribution makes my job much easier, Thank you very much.

Cassington:-  It was nice to see a few member, who for various reasons are not able to get to our Monday evening club nights. Dave Barnes and son from Rugby, the couple from Nuneaton who owns a Hinckley Legend, I think, Also the gentleman from Stratford-upon-Avon, sorry can’t remember your name, but you were a friend of Dave Barnes. Also nice to see Giles again, don’t leave it so long till the next time. Kevin & Julie, nice to see you with Imogene. Thanks to you all for supporting our Meriden Social meet. Thank once again for your reports Keith.

And thanks to all for helping on the day with the equipment and food etc.

10th, 11th and 12th   The Festival of a Thousand Bikes at Mallory Park. This is an excellent event with about a dozen of us camping for the weekend and a good club stand. Ian and Geoff had a couple of races around the track. I think Bob got some good pictures of the racers with his 10ft lense!  Good music and entertainment in the main marquee as usual with side entertainment provided by Bob the legs. Unfortunately the local pub was closed for food so we had to resort to the local chippy , delivered by Bob W & Derek (Thanks)

19/7/09 Jack hill Café Ltd “Ton up Day” Several of us braved the forecast of rain to attend this event being only its second year. I think this will become a main attraction in the forthcoming years. It was crowded even with the rain and had several trading stall a Triumph Owners Club Stand. A few of us then went on the Wellesbourne café for a dry cuppa.

Don’t forget the daytime meets if you are not working or get a day off

TRIUMPH OWNERS CLUB Meriden 2009    (June & July)

 G'Day,

I have been having a very busy biking schedule for the last month, all good fun but I could do with a good long rest. You know what they say make hay whist the sun shines, well at least whilst its not raining.

24/May 09: V.J.M.C.C. at Stanford Hall.  Geoff led the about 21 Triumphs in from the London Rd island (Thanks Geoff). To meet up at the event with Ian & Carroll who had brought the stand equipment (Thanks both) We had a good sunny day, the first time for the last 3 years, the last 2 years we have had torrential rain. We won best club stand and a good time was had by all.

On the 1 June I set off for the Isle of Man T.T. and enjoyed a very good 10 days with only one wet day. I returned on the Wednesday for the B.O.F. 3 day rally and continued to enjoy good weather and a good time.

7 June 09, Klondyke Steam rally. I spoke to soon about the good weather, this event was rained off. Keith made last minute phone calls to let every one know of the cancellation and Geoff and Gerry went along to the meet point just in case any one turned up (Thanks lads).

17 June 09, Blue Lias: I couldn’t manage this one but I am told about 7 members went along including 2 new members. They normally leave a hard standing area for the bikes but failed to do so this year. The organiser Emailed me as follows:-I did think you guys would take over the two cinder tracks just in front of the marquee again like you managed to do the other years and turn that bit into a bike show, but it looks like you were beaten to it by spectators cars. Perhaps next year we can reserve an area in the field for motorbikes if you don't mind parking on the grass ?

18 June 09, Bike night at the Coventry Transport Museum. As usual we were made very welcomed into the parking area at the rear and light refreshments were made available and we had the run of the museum
all-be-it only the ground floor. I recommend this museum to all when you have any spare time.

21 June 09, The Banbury Run at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon. I arrived at 8:25 with the stand equipment to find about 12 members already there to help me put up the Gazebo etc. (Thanks lads). We had a total of 20 triumphs there and the weather held except for a 3 minute light shower. Another good day, and thanks to all those who spent time at the stand promoting the Club and the Bonneville celebration.

If you haven’t already done so then come along to the Monday night meets at the club and if you can make it during the day, come along to the Tuesday (Wellesbourne) and or the Wednesday (Hoar Park) morning meets.

Thanks once again to those who have taken time out to bring along the club equipment to the various events. To all those who partake and enjoy the use of the club stand at these events, we still require volunteers, (at the most once each year) to bring the equipment along to an event in their car. It’s your club and will be as good as you make it.

TRIUMPH OWNERS CLUB Meriden 2009    (April for June)

Summer is here at last and we are ready for a good season.

Carol, Martins partner has taken on the position of Show/ Rally Officer. This roll will entail organising the various rallies and asking active member in turn to take the club equipment (gazebos and chairs etc) to the few shows each year (about 6 in all). Each active member would only have to volunteer about once every 2 years, if the all take a turn.  Peter Brown as agreed to keep Martins 6ft by 4tf trailer at his place in Coventry to store the equipment in. It is intended that the member volunteering to take the equipment for any particular event can either take the trailer if they have a tow bar or load the equipment into their own car and return it after use in good order. The new position of Clothing coordinator (ordering/ selling etc) has also been taken by Carol

Sun 29/3/09 Mike Hailwood. It was a fine day with a good turnout. I lead the run in from Stonebridge island to Brace bridge Street, were we met up with hundreds of others bikers from all over. We rode in to Tanworth in Arden the old way through Kings Heath. Afterwards several of us the rode into Stratford waterside which was also crowded and then a few more joined us to go onto Hatton Locks. A very good day, I didn’t get home until about 5:00pm.

5/4/09 Big breakfast, having had attempts to arrange a ride-in thwarted. I sent out an Email to anyone who wished to join me for the ride in, which resulted in about 16 of us riding in together. It was another fine day, resulting in a massive turn out in excess of 1000 bikes. After a good “Big Breakfast” Barry, a few others and myself had a ride thought the countryside and ended up at the Bridgenorth Bikers Café. Another great day.

5/4/09  (Sun) South Midlands Monthly Classic Transport EVENT. Normally held at the Britannic H. Q. was moved to the Rose & Crown, just down the road. I have reports of a great turnout with the new manager making everyone welcome. This event moves to the second Tuesday evening of each month from now until autumn.

13th April (Bank Holiday Mon). Red Marley hill climb. I couldn’t make this event but I have heard rain spoilt the day a little and there was a bit of bother there. (Very unusual)

19/4/09
(Sun) Meriden TOMCC Spring Run.The National War Memorial, Nr Tamworth. About 20 of us met up at the Meriden club and Jerry led us there. The second man drop of system had a few snags with a few members not sure of the system and some getting mislaid. Some managed to find us again and some found their own way there and one turned up about ½ hour after the rest of us having been mislead by his sat nav.  This was another great day out and a place I will probably visit again.

Julian Page sent this message following Sundays ride out.

This was my first run with the club despite having a 191/XXXXXX membership number. I was on the blue 'Thruxton' behind you. I came home independently- I understand that this is okay-at just after 13:00 is my dinner call. As branch scribe I would like to let you know that I find everyone in the branch to be first class & welcoming so that if there are any 'Nacelle' reading members who haven't 'taken the plunge' & come along then they should do so- it is good. It was a good mix of Meriden & Hinckley 'bikes & great to see & be part of.  I exercised my throttle hand a bit more on the way back down the A444 as one needs the weight taken off the wrists a little. Kind regards.

Julian Page

The Tuesday meet is going well with bikers from other clubs etc coming along.

The Wed meet is also getting more and more popular and I managed to get along there this month. Someone said maybe we will get a mention in the mag know Den’s been. But of course it would get a mention every month whether I go or not if someone sent in a report. So please send in reports.

Barry is now home from hospital following his operation and I hope on a steady recovery. He finds it hard to sit about doing nothing, but it is imperative he does so. He has asked me to pass on the following message to all.

A message from Barry

Thanks for all the get well cards, texts, and numerous emails and the visits to the hospital by Arny & Carol, Wayne & Carl, and Des and all those who were about to come had I been in hospital a little longer.  A special thank you to Den and Mack who also brought my Carol along when they visited. All the good wishes are so uplifting when you are feeling down. Thanks again Barry.

'Day,

Well nothing much had been happening last month and so I had nothing to write about in last months issue, but with Spring starting and although its still March we have been having some lovely days, and things have been happening.

23/2/09 Our Meriden branch’s AGM.  A good meeting with a few changes being made enabling the club to grow and develop. The main points of the meeting were: Branch Scribe position to be split into two poisons with the introduction of Communicating Officer being added.  Re-elected officers are Chairman:- John Nelson, Secretary:- Ian Ellis, Treasurer:- Ian Kay, Runs Captain:- Keith Snell, BMF Liaison:- John Nelson, Branch Scribe Denis O’Neil, Communications:- Denis O’Neil, There was one position :- Web Maters taken over from John Nelson by Bob Johnson. It is good to have new blood on the committee especially when as in this case the position was taken over from a committee member holding down 3 positions.  I asked if anyone was willing to take over my poison as Scribe but we had no volunteers so I agreed to continue until someone comes forward.  A new position of Show/ Rally Officer was introduced but as yet we have had no volunteers. This will be perused along with other matters in our new monthly meeting (First Mon of each month). Also a new position of Club Clothing coordinator (ordering/ selling etc) was made.  We await feedback on names for this poison. We also made a sponsorship donation of £250 to Clive Humphries and Mike Davies' charities for their run to Timbuktu. We also agreed to sponsor a £75 trophy for the Bonneville Rally. 2/3/09 Air ambulance talk. This was enjoyed by all those who attended and a collection was made afterwards which amounted, I think to some £160 odd pounds which was doubled from club funds as agrees at the AGM.  A very worthy course and an amount to be proud of.8/3/09 Classic Bike meet at the Britanic.  A good day with a good turn out  with about 6 Meriden TOMCC Member there.17/3/09 Was anther fine day resulting in a good turnout at the Wellesbourn Café on Tuesday. The outside seating area was full of Bikers some of whom I have not seen before.Sun 22 /3/09 was another fine day resulting in a massive turn out at Stratford’s Water Side. But unfortunately I have been told the council has put up no parking signs along Water Side and so we will be back to the bike park. Every Wednesday I seem to have other commitment and so have not been able to get along to Hoar Park but I believe it is going from strength to strength. A preliminary event list as been issued via E Mail and looked like another jammed packed 2009 summer. All we need is the weather and I have a feeling we are in for a scorcher this year.As mentioned at the AGM I would greatly appreciate input from members for this monthly write up. So let me know what you have been up to such as feed back from Clive and Mike about their run to Timbuktu would be great.

    See Ya  T’Bird

Well its been the longest cold spell for many a year and icy roads and bikes don’t go together, but there have been a few days when the temperature has risen to the lofty heights of 7 deg. And of course us bikers always have our cars to fall back on.

John S sent in the following E Mail: -

"Hi Den, Last week on the 17th December, several of the Wednesday crowd (Hoar Park) stayed for a Xmas lunch, which went very well indeed mainly Triumph lads with 6 BSA lads tagged on at the end, of the table. Good fun. Dave Perry tried to see if he could drive to Australia, via the overflow car park, by digging a hole with the power from his front wheels. Also you suggested that a visit to Coventry motor Museum was worth it. Well Monday I went and enjoyed every minute. I actually saw an example of my first bike, A Fanny Barnett cruiser 45, Thanks for keeping everyone up with the info."

Boxing Day was dry and a high of about 5 deg resulting in a fantastic turn out from the Meriden TOMCC and most of the midlands other bike clubs. I see and talk to fellow bikers at the Boxing Day meet that I don’t seem to see at any other time. It seems as though this meet at the Britannic has taken over as the main biking Boxing day meeting point in the Midlands.

It seemed the next Britannic meet being the 2nd Sunday of each month was on top of us almost straight after the Boxing Day meet. The weather was cold and dry again but there was a smaller turn out as you would expect being so close to the last meet.  Barry, Dave P and myself went along to the Bluebell afterward where apparently the BSA owner meet every month and of course the BOF.

Tuesday 13/1/09 saw another dry and relatively warmer day and so a few of us Barry, Gerald, Bov and myself took the opportunity to meet up at the Wellesbourne Airfield Café.  After a good breakfast, Gerald suggested we go to the Coventry Vehicle Museum, which we did, led by Barry. On arrival we pulled up outside the locked back entrance and before long a member of staff came out and let us put our bike in the back yard.

We first looked at the Custom Bikes. All wonderful examples of engineering and could even be described a beautiful works of art, but most were not very practical. We then moved on to look around the rest of the museum including breaking the world land speed record at over 800 miles per hour. Well it seemed like that in the simulator. Another place I highly recommend.

The Monday evening club meet is still very popular and I am told the Wednesday morning meet is growing in numbers all the time with people coming from far and wide.

See Ya        T'Bird Den.         Info to:- meridenscribe@talktalk.net (New Address)

G'Day

Well winter is well and truly here. I haven’t been out much on the bike but I have been to a few bike functions in the car.
The Bike show at the NEC. Not a bad day out for a fiver, well that is a fiver for us old pensioners. It’s free on the train using a bus pass and only a fiver to get in if you are over 60. I found it much the same as most years but I bumped into a few fellow TOMCC members.
The Christmas dinner / party: - More than ever attended this year and a good time was had by all. The Email I had from John S as follows describes it well. “Hi Den, Once again I would like to say what a fantastic Christmas Dinner that was organised and put on by the Meriden branch. Having been to many Motor club dinners in the dim and distant past, I can truly say that in my experience the club and members have got it just right, most had finished the business of eating before the revelry started and all that was light hearted fun, it must have been good even the staff joined in. at the end. And Bob W wet himself, also the gods looked kindly on us all, with the weather warming up a little so that the trip home would not be too bad for everyone, What a good way to end the Year, Wishing everyone a fantastic Christmas.” Thanks John S.
Britannic meet. 14/12/08 Second Sunday of each month: - There was a good turn out considering how cold it was but dry. There were about 4 Meriden lads and quite a few from other clubs there. I went along to the Bluebell afterwards.
Bonneville 50th anniversary: - Keith has purchased all the entrance tickets that members had paid him to get. They will be available in March. It should be a good turnout. Anyone wishing to camp for the weekend must purchase there own camping ticket in addition to the entrance ticket.
Meriden AGM 23 Feb 2009: - All Meriden Branch members should attend the AGM if possible to thank and elect / re-elect committee members and plan for next year.

John S sent in the following report on the Klondyke Steam fair, which just missed last months issue.
"Sunday 19 October. And the run to the Klondyke steam fair. At Draycott in the Clay, this appears to be getting to be a popular last run of the season. The day started with a very crisp cool, morning, that promised to be dry. The run starting from the Meriden club house, through Kingsbury to Dosthill two more members were waiting here, with the local guide taking over as lead rider then on to Hopwas and two more joined the run. This time the town centre of Tamworth was missed out thus saving possible troubles with the traffic, and queues waiting to get onto the large shopping area of supermarkets. Then out towards Alrewas and Kings Bromley, where the final member joined the pack. Then on to Yoxall, this is a lovely run with decent roads, although there are speed limits most of the way (mainly 50 mph) then into the borders of Derbyshire to the little village of Draycott in the Clay.
As usual we were welcomed and directed to the area under the trees, joining other exhibitors, the queues for the sausage and chips were as usual very long, but that is only to be expected, as they are fantastic. And as usual the exhibitors were very varied from Steam tractors of all sorts to classic cars and bikes, stands selling all sorts of things from garden fencing to old Whitworth spanners. And with the day staying fine it turned out to be a good day for all."
Thanks John.
9th Nov Britannic meet, I couldn’t make it but I have been told there was a good turn out with a fair number of Triumph Members there.
14th - 16th Nov Classic vehicle show at the NEC. This was the first time I have been to this show and the first time I have put my old Thunderbird on show. We had about 26 bikes on our club stand covering a wide range of bikes up to a 2008 Bonneville. The majority of the bikes were from the Meriden and Birmingham & Wolves Branches and it was all organised by Dave Measures our friendly Nacelle Editor. And a good job he made of it. Thanks Dave. Gerry B won a commendation with his Cub. It was a good show that we all enjoyed.
The Monday evening club meeting is going strong with most members going along in their cars. And the Tues daytime meet is falling of a little due to the weather but I believe Wed daytime meets is still going strong. We should have enjoyed the Christmas Party and the Boxing Day meet by the time this is published.

G'Day

I’ve left it to the last day to get my report in again. With the biking season coming to an end there has not been a lot happening. My aches, pains and bruises have almost all gone after my little mishap and my bike was back on the road a few days afterwards even though the insurance say it is a total loss.
Roger and Mandy whom I believe have just retired have just returned from riding route 66, which Roger says was great but arduous with a lot of miles to be covered each day. I think it is something we all would like to have done.
Sunday Oct 12th Toddington steam and vintage rally. We had weather and a good turn out and we met up at 9:45 am at the Stratford bike park and set off for the rally, which in fact was held at Cheltenham this year.
It was a good show as usual and after about 2 hours we all met up again and went back to Toddington for a cup and snack. We then set off home with myself stopping off at Stratford.
The Britannic meet was also today but obviously we couldn’t be in two places at once. The alternative to the VMCC Boxing day meet (which they chose to keep secret last year) has been confirmed as being held at the Britannic this year.
Sun Oct 19th Klondyke autumn steam party: I could not make it but Keith sent in this report “Seven Triumphs left the club house to ride to the show, picking up another two Triumphs and three BSA’S on the way. It was a nice laid back show and a fine dry day and a lot of interest was shown in the bike and the classic cars and of course the traction engines and steam engines and steamrollers. A fine group of enthusiasts, who make us bikers welcome to their show and also sell good food in the canteen. Thanks to Dave p and John S for leading us there and back again along some good winding roads” Thanks for that Keith who said it made a pleasant change to be the Tail End Charley instead of the leader giving him the chance to interact with the rest of the lads through some hand signals not seen in the highway code!
The same weekend saw the Stafford show, which I believe a few of the lads, went to.
The Christmas party is set for the 12th Dec with all ticket being sold the first night.

G'Day

As I said last month quite a few of us went across to the Isle of Man. I went on the Wednesday of practice week and stayed with my daughter in Port Erin. The main group of about 16 Meriden members came across on the Thursday. I met them at the port and went with them to their campsite just outside Onchan. Thursday night we all dined at the local (Archibald Knocks) Friday night we had a BBQ, Roy was given the job of head chef but he soon passed it off onto Martin, Roy calls that delegation. Bob and Geoff came across joining the others on Saturday. On another night a fellow camper gave them about 7 freshly caught fish, so we all had BBQed fish that night. Neil and Shirley were the chefs that time. Another group of members, Geoff Hopcraft and his mates stayed on a campsite just outside Peel and I bumped into then at Castle Town’s classic bike meet on the Sunday. Albert, Ian and their mates whom I bumped into on the Tuesday, I think stayed bed & breakfast not far from the camps site and we bought Kipper in Peel and dinned at the Archibald Knocks again on the evening. I also bumped into Jim and his mate who were staying self catering in Port Erin. We spent the day riding and site seeing the south part of the island, On the night we had a drink at the Falcon Nest (My local). Mike D and his pals stayed bed and breakfast but I can’t remember where. A few members managed to ride the circuit on closed road and Bob W won a trophy for his bike and he was so happy one night he performed a little ditty for our pleasure (very good it was). No doubt the “lads” have many stories to tell like John S falling in the river and Dave’s tent leaking. I also bumped into many other friends from other bike clubs. I thought I might have been out of it all, by being on my own in Port Erin. But every day was filled either with family or bumping into or meeting up with one of the many groups mentioned above. The weather could have been better but I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Sunday 7/9/08 The Coventry run was cancelled due to the wet weather
Sunday 14/9/08 Borders Classic bike event at the Lacon Childe School, Cleobury Mortimer. About 16 of us met up at 10am at the Dog Pub, Mappleborough Green, The weather was overcast but not cold and no rain. The meet was well attended as usual with plenty of bikes to look at. After about 1½ hours at the meet we went onto the Long Mind and stopped at the top for a cuppa and scone at the gliding club café where we were made very welcome. We then left for the bikers café at Bridge North. A good day as usual.
Tuesday 14/9/08 I set off for the Wellsbourne airfield café but I never got there due to a little altercation with a car. This Tuesday meet is still going strong, as is the Wednesday meet & Monday club nights. (All welcome)
Friday 19/9/08 I was going to the BMF Tail end but still had a few bruises.

G'Day

I have family visiting from Australia and America and so have been kept very busy on the family front and I have not been able to attend as many event as usual, but members have been keeping me up to date with what’s been happening.
18-20th July Offa’s Dyke Rally: - As I said last month, I was unexpectedly called away but 2 members sent in the following information. Geoff from B’ham and Wolves branch joined six happy Meriden campers for a great weekend. The weather was kind, the views from the campsite stunning, the food van served meals that a restaurant wouldn't be ashamed of and the two evening groups were excellent. They got us up and dancing at any rate. Poor Geoff woke up Saturday to find that his bike battery had gone flat overnight and had to visit Hereford to get a new one. We all got on our bikes and went to visit the Big Pit, a colliery at Blaenavon, that is now a museum and well worth a visit. We went via the black mountains and just had to stop to admire the scenery en route. I think we would all agree that it was a brilliant rally and many thanks to the Beacons branch for all their work to make it such a good weekend.
27th July VMCC Founders Day Rally, Stanford Hall :- "This was so well attended by members that we did not have enough room for the all the bikes on the allotted area which was quite small and the last few to arrive could not display theirs. That apart, it was an enjoyable hot and dry day, with the usual events in the main arena. Quite a few members who do not come to the club for one reason or another made themselves known to us, which was great, and hello to you all out there who are unable to meet up with us on Mondays. We also spoke to lots of other people who were Triumph minded. Hopefully we have generated quite a lot of interest in both joining the club and the Bonneville celebrations next year.
Our lads kept disappearing off to the auto jumble and although everyone says that they are not like they used to be, quite a lot of bits and pieces seemed to make their way back to our gazebo over the course of the day, with special mention to Pete Brown who kept telling me that it was the last time he was going to go and look round, but kept coming back with something else!!!!!" Shirley.
27th July Ken Broomfields Wings And Wheels Show at Baxterley Nr Atherstone:- "5 Members met up at the club house to ride into the show. We met a few more members there along with the Tamworth Classic mcc. We put our bikes on display for all to see. Along with classic cars, vans, military vehicles and radio controlled model tanks. The high point of the day was the fly in and display by the Hawker Hurricane (only 11 left flying). There was also a fly by of a Spitfire, a Russian YAK 18 stunt plane, a YAK 32, and an assortment of bi-panes and a Gipsy Moth, Tiger Moth, a Jackaroo, and other assorted classic aircraft. It was all on a lovely setting on a grass airstrip and a well-informed commentary on the various aircraft. A smashing and interesting day was had by all". Keith.
4th Aug:- The funeral of a fellow "biker" (Jel) who unexpectedly passed away recently was held on this day. He was a member of the Barking Mad MCC. There were representative from the Triumph Owners MCC, Boring Old Fartz MCC, Double Drat MCC, Alli Boongo MCC, Legend MCC, and Bards Bikers MCC paying their respects totalling about 60 or 70 “bikes”. This shows the respect between clubs for fellow "bikers" and the respect this particular "biker" had earned in his lifetime. I can only hope I will earn the same respect in my life. We met up at Studley Sports And Social Club, Eldorado Close Studley and rode to his house and awaited the funeral procession. Several of the B.O.F. were asked to escort the procession to the crematorium. They stopped all the traffic at every junction, giving the procession of cars followed by the mass of bikes a clear right of way. There was not enough room inside the crematorium for all the mourners. The close family made a point of thanking us afterwards. Yet another time I felt proud to be a "biker".
7th Aug Solihull in bloom. About 16 members turned out for this event. We were asked by Solihull Council to put on a display of Meriden bikes to enhance there bit for Britain in Bloom. It couldn’t have gone any better. The chief judge was an ex Triumph Bike rider and loved the bikes, He had his picture taken by local press sitting astride several of them. I received the following E Mail shortly afterwards from Becki Wood of Solihull Council. "Hi Denis. Wow! Thank you very much – was very pleased with the display – it looked great and only wish we’d had more time to look at all the bikes…. They seemed to go down really well with the judges (who got very excited!) and there were lots of press photo’s taken. Can you please pass on my thanks to everyone, I was really impressed with the response and only expected 10-12 bikes but there seemed to be loads!
Will be in touch with the results in September, your help was greatly appreciated". Becki Wood. Marketing and Events Officer. Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
After the show most of us went along to a Transport café by Balsall Heath for a coffee and sandwich and chinwag. Keith, Graham Cadman and myself were the last to leave but alas Grahams 140 Bonnie wouldn’t start. We did a temporary repair and escorted him home.
12th Aug . South Midlands Monthly Classic Transport Event. At Britannic H. Q. :- I couldn’t make it this month but I have been told it was very busy and a good evening.
17th Aug Ryan's Ryde 2008:- We met up at Hopwood services on then M42 11.00. There were hundreds of bikes and we set of for Hampton Ferry, Evesham. I had a lovely carvery and lazed about until about 3 pm when I had to go. Most of the others went back to the Rose and Crown to carry on with the festivities.
20th-31st August. Manx Grand Prix Isle of Man. About 16 of us are off to the IOM and I hope to be reporting a good time in next moths report.

G'Day

With fairly good weather in between the rain and a jammed packed schedule, there’s a lot being going on this month.
Sun 22nd July, Banbury run: - This pre 1930’s bike show / run has moved to Gaydon. Unfortunately the geographical layout of the site meant that the auto jumble was some distance from the main bike show. But never the less it was a good day with a good turnout from club members at our club stand.
Monday 23rd July, Cassington: - Another fine day with about 12 of us meeting up at the Stratford bike park at 2pm for the run into Cassington lead by Barry. As we were about to leave there was a little physical altercation started by a married couple who I don’t believe are a member of any bike club. Barry intervened and put an end to it. I wont be inviting them again. We arrived to be some of the first on the village green, which is reserved for classic British bikes. A few of our number not on British bikes were asked to move them from the green. A few more members came along later in the evening. There were estimated from 3 to 5 thousand bikes there. Another very good event.
Fri-Sun 27th-29th July, Thunderbird Rally: - I followed Gerry there and Ian and Shirley came along later, The weather held and the Birmingham and Wolves Branch made us very welcome. Good food and good company. Another good weekend.
Sun 6th July Open Day: - Gerry brought all the gear to the club and Roger and Mandy bought and brought all the food and with the help of Ian and Carol cooked and served all the free food. Thanks to you all. It was a fair turn out considering the weather and we had 2 visitors from the Birmingham and Wolves Branch (Geoff and Carol) whom we met at their rally the week before.
Fri-Sun 11th-13th July Festival of a thousand bikes at Mallory Park: - Ian and Shirley, Gerry, Mike, Dave, Clive, John Stonard and myself went along on the Friday and many more came along on the Saturday. It was a good weekend with an exceptionally good 50’s and 60’s rock and roll band on the Saturday.
Tues 15th Wellsbourne airfield café: - I finally managed to get there along with about six others; a few of the regulars couldn’t make it. I recommend this meet to anyone who is not working.
Fri-Sun 18th -20th Offa’s Dyke Rally: - 6 of us went along and we were warmly welcomed, Unfortunately after we had all put up our tents and got every thing ready I was called away and had to go back home and so I will have to ask how the weekend went. Thanks to all who put my kit away and brought it back for me.

G'Day

Now that the long summer nights with us at last we are meeting in the club car park on a Monday night now with plenty of members bikes to look at. Dave has swapped his Bonneville America for a Rocket Three. It’s hard to believe he has not long passed his bike test and has progressed from a learner to the most powerful bike in the world.
22ND 25TH May, Barry & myself went across the channel to a rally in Hoppem, Belgium. We decided to leave early and get to Dover ahead of time because of the French fisherman’s dispute. We were only delayed 30 minutes but the rest of our group who arrived at Dover on time were delayed 6 hours and never arrived at the campsite until 2am. Apart from that we had a great time with plenty of sunshine. Barry got totally leg less celebrating his birthday.
25th May (Sun). VJMCC EVENT. Classic Bike Club Show. Stanford Hall. Because I was in Belgium I obviously wasn’t at Stanford Hall but Keith told me it was another total washout just like last year with most members sheltering under John Stonard’s awning.
1st June (Sun) Run to The Toddington Steam Rally. There was a good turnout for this meet. We met up at 10-00am at Stratford upon Avon Bike Park and Keith led the way there. The weather was good and the highlight of the show was the Battle of Britain Memorial fly past by a Spitfire, Lancaster and Hurricane. It was a sight to behold that words can’t justify.
8th June 2008 MERIDEN MOTORCYCLE MEGARIDE. 150 riders left The Arrow Mill at 10:30 to meet up with the main body at Leamington. We left Leamington at 11.30 with a Police Escort. The weather was good and we won the highest club turnout. Another good day.
10th June (Tues). South Midlands Monthly Classic Transport EVENT. At Britannic H. Q. Being a hot summers night there was a great turnout with more bikes and cars than I have ever seen there before.
June 13th – 15th (Fri, Sat, Sun) 7th Whistle with the Wind Rally at Portway. Barry and myself went along and had good weather and a great time.
18th June (Wed) Cov & Warks Motor Club Wheels Display evening At the Blue Lias. I was unable to go along to this meet and have had no reports.
19TH JUNE (Thu) bike night at the Coventry museum of transport. I was also unable to go to this meet and have had no reports.
The Monday Club evening meet, Tuesday & Wednesday weekly meets are going strong as usual.
Last month I was grateful for member’s reports of events I wasn’t able to attend. I do try and attend most of the events, but when I can’t make it, it is appreciated to have a few notes from members who were there so as I can include them here.

G'Day

The summer has come at last making for a crammed packed event schedule. I am out and about nearly every day while the weather is fine.
29/4/08. 11 of us led by Bob Johnson met up at Stonebridge Island for the run into RAF Cossford. Neville Riley, one of the Meriden Megaride organisers had arranged to our surprise for us to meet up with the Air Ambulance photographer. And so ten of us, including Neville, astride our bikes were photographed in a vee formation around the Helicopter. A memorable and interesting photograph. A copy can be sent upon request to any member via email. We also of course spent the rest of the day looking around the free aircraft museum including the new building which in itself is an architectural wonder with the roof having being specially designed to support the many display aircraft suspended from the roof support beams. On show were aircraft from the Second World War and Cold War nuclear bombers. As we walked in Bob said to me be prepared to be amazed and that I was. I can’t recommend this enough to all.
26/4/08 (Sat) Stafford. I went along on my own but before long I bumped into Gerry Boland, and John Stonard, who bought us all a lovely soft ice cream which was very welcome on such a hot day. A little latter I bumped into Paul Singleton and his mate Ian who kindly bought me a cup of coffee. Its good to have friends!!! I then bumped into Geoff ? who didn’t buy me anything. I will have to work on him?
9th 10th 11th /4/08 About 180 went along to our national TOMCC Rally at Bainland Country Park including our John Nelson and Ian and Carrol Kay. There is a BBC news clip about the event on the web HERE
10th 11th /4/08 Welsh Rally. Ian & Shirley sent this report " We had a great time, met some really friendly people and I am really chuffed as we completed the whole rally and got a Platinum Award, which includes the Dragon award, all on the old T100. There seemed to be very few old bikes in the rally this year, although one brave soul did the whole thing on a step over!! I think Ian was pleased to have the opportunity to go for the Platinum again, before both we and the bike get beyond it. Mind you, if I had known it would be 14 hours and 430 miles I might never have agreed to go for it! As Ian says, we have achieved it together now, so it won't matter if we go for a lesser award another year". Thanks both.
10th /4/08 (Sat) Barry Roach, Dave Truman and myself went along to a bikers annual charity fund raising event at the road house Stirchley. It ran from 12 noon to 12 midnight with about 100 bikes attending and 4 different bands a B B Q and of course a bar and many fund raising events. At about 3pm a mini bus full of the disabled children that the fund raising event was in aid of arrived. They sat on the bikes and listened to the music. It made me proud to be a so-called biker.
10th 11th /4/08 VMCC Warwickshire Branch, Coventry / Brighton run from Coventry museum of road transport. Bob Wisdom sent in this report. "Gerald Boland entered on his 1966 T Bird and Dave Sketchley on his 1968 T100 C. I entered my 1970 T120 R. Very well organised event and a superb experience although tiring. Good route and stops with excellent scenery on the way. All finished off by Dave winning trophy for best post war bike." Roger and Mandy also entered which I believe they do every year. Ian & Shirley intend to enter next year.
11th /4/08 (Sun) I Mech. Eng. Event at Gaydon. About 20 Triumphs attended which was excellent considering how many other events were running this weekend. Ian Snell stood in by taking the club stand equipment along which is usually done by Ian and Shirley but of course they can’t be in two places at once. Thanks Ian. It was a good day with many of us winning free entry into the Museum. But we all manage to see it one way or another. Several of our bike won medals for bike worthy of merit. All for just £2-00 !!!
13th /4/08 (Tues) Britannic Classic vehicle meet. This meet has now moved to the 2nd Tues of each month for summer. Several members went along. It was the usual well-attended meeting with lots of other bikers I am getting to know well. It is a beautiful place to be on a worm summers night.
14th /4/08 a friend of Barry and mine a biker who had a stroke a few months ago has been slowly recovering to regain the use of his limbs and speech when on Wednesday evening his heart was lifted when he was greeted by 20 fellow biker friends riding into the grounds of the hospital were his son was taking him for the predestined walk. Individual have been visiting him on a regular basses but this mass visit moved him to tears. Big Bad Bikers!!! We all then went along to the Rose & Crown where there was free food and coffee waiting, courtesy of the new management.
17th 18th 4/08 BMF Rally We had the usual TOMCC Stand manned by members from other branches and John Nelson. Ian & Shirley, Gerry Boland, and Myself from the Meriden branch. Neville Riley, Jim Bowyer & Bob Johnson dropped in to see us whilst looking around. It was a good show with the usual 100s of trade and club stands with free entrance and evening entertainment to club exhibitors.
The Monday Club evening meet, Tuesday & Wednesday weekly meets are going strong.
G'Day

Quite a cold and wet month, resulting in only a few members turning out.
Sun, 23/3/08 The Mick Hailwood run. Only a few TOMCC members turned up and the overall attendance from other bikers was low as well due to the weather. Two routes were used this year. Some went on the M42 for the first leg and some; mainly the older bike used the familiar old route through Birmingham and then on to Tanworth as usual. Strangely the older bikes using the route through Birmingham City got there first
Sun, 6/4/08 The Big Breakfast at Prees Heath. Another cold and wet Day. In fact I don’t know of anyone who went along. And so I know nothing of this event. There was a better branch turnout at the national AGM, well Gaydon was rather closer to hand with snow on the ground.
Sat 12/4/08 Photo Shoot. What an excellent turn out for this photo shoot for submission into next years TOMCC Calendar. The weather was with us and we managed to get some good shoots. Thanks Ian for all your effort. I hope we will have some shots in next year’s calendar. We all then went along to the Meriden café where we all had a hot drink courtesy of good old Lenny. It would be nice to see this number turn out for our other rides and meets when the summer is finally with us. Arnold’s bike would not start and so I fetched my trailer from home and towed it to Vale Onslow’s who Arnold knows well. I have not heard what is wrong with it yet.
Sun, 13/4/08 Britanic Classic vehicle meet. The weather forecasts said rain, but it stayed dry until about 1pm then rained a little for a short time. Only about 5 members went along but it was a good meet and we had a good time. Most of us went along to the Blue Bell afterward for a hot cup of coffee.
Tues 15/4/08 A few of us were going to go along to the Charley Boorman run, To accompany him on his first leg from the M40 J10 to the Ace Café. To then see him off on his next epic journey to Australia but the weather finally put us off. I’ve been told thousands turned up. We will have to wait and see when its aired on TV. Our own single-handed globe travelling Biker (Clive) is back from South Africa. I’ve been told he had to change tyres and pistons ring etc all by himself without the army of back up personnel that the TV Stars have. Thats what I call true Biking / Exploring. I wish I had the courage. Anyway having backed away from travelling all the way down to the Ace café, we went along to the Wellesbourne airfield cafe instead. There were about 4 of us members and about 3 other bikers from other clubs. It was a very good day. A few of us then went on to Stratford.
Sun 20/4/08 The Spring run. Despite the rain 8 bikes with 9 rider turned up at the Dog Pub. Unfortunately Gerald was waiting for us at the Stonebridge Island. The ride into Bewdley was fairly cold and wet, but as we arrived the weather picked up and it turned out to be not too bad a day if a little on the cold side. Half the group went by train to the visitors centre at Highly and the other half of us rode there. Surprisingly again we all got there at the same time. I would recommend this new visitors centre to anyone wishing to have a good day out. Many trains and coaches can be viewed and boarded. There is also an upstairs café and outside balcony overlooking the railway line and river.
Barry and myself then set of for the St George’s Day meet on the Stratford Road Shirley. This year we had a police escort up the Stratford road to the Robin Hood Island and back again and then on to the Rose ands Crown at Portway. I would estimate there were over a hundred on the parade. On arrival at the Rose and Crown, guess who finally turned up? Yes Gerald had finally found us. Some say good old Gerald !!!
I’m told the Wednesday meet is still doing well and its good to see John Creswell out and about again and seems to be doing well. It was good to see Roy (Maroon Speed Twin) at the Club Monday night following his operation. He also seems to be recovering well and hopes to be well enough to do a months bike / camping / touring around Cornwall before joining us on the Isle of Man run.

G'Day

Not too much been happening this month but plans are being made for Spring.
Mon 25/2/08 Meriden AGM. I was on holiday and so could not attend but I have been informed the good old reliable committee have all been re-elected again.
Sun 9/3/08 Britannic Classic meet Barry, Bob, Gerry and myself attended. A good meet with some of us going on to Stratford afterwards.
Sat 15/3/08 The MAG Easter Egg Run Barry and myself joined in with a few other clubs for this run. A very rewarding and satisfying run. We met up With MAG members at Bromsgrove and rode into Worcesters Acorns Children’s Hospice. We were greeted by the staff with a coffee and biscuits. The Look on the kids faces was reward enough. We should take part in more charitable events!
Monday club nights, Tuesdays at Wellsbourne airfield cafe and the Wednesday meet at Hoar Park are all going strong with the Tuesday meet growing in numbers.
  Tuesdays, Wednesdays Sundays good
